Petra & Wadi Rum

Petra & Wadi Rum

Day 1:

Your English speaking driver will collect you from your Aqaba Hotel or at the Jordanian side of the Eilat/Wadi Araba border crossing and transfer you by an air-conditioned vehicle for about 1.5 hours to the rose red city of Petra, a must-see in the Middle East. With your English speaking guide walk through the 1.2km-long Siq to reach the city of Petra, passing the remains of Nabataean shrines, water channels, wall carvings and some of the original paving stones. See the magnificent Treasury as you exit the Siq,explore the Street of Facades, the Theatre, Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, Byzantine Church, Winged Lion's Temple, Qasr al Bint, and the Petra Museum. Return to the town of Wadi Musa near the entrance gates for lunch at a local restaurant. Then drive to Wadi Rum, a protected area covering 720km2 of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Climb into the back of a 4WD jeep for a 2 hour tour across vast tracts of sand, through narrow canyons between majestic mountains. See ancient Nabataean rock inscriptions and huge red sand dunes. At the end of your tour, meet with your driver for the return journey to Aqaba. Note: The tour in Petra requires considerable walking on uneven ground. A limited number of carriages can be hired from the entrance gates - prices to be negotiated direct with the owners.
