Day 1:
Jerash is a UNESCO world heritage site and a “must see” during your stay in Jordan. Close to the capital of Amman, you can easily reach this fantastic ancient city and spend plenty of time exploring all the ancient ruins. Top the day off by visiting The Citadel in the heart of Amman, the oldest site of civilization in the city. Pick up from Amman Hotel by an English speaking driver. Transfer to Jerash, the best preserved Greco-Roman provincial city in the world. A local guide will lead you into the city via Hadrian’s Arch. See the hippodrome, capable of holding 15,000 spectators. Continue through the city visiting Roman churches and theaters, the Greek temple of Artemis with its 12m high columns, the Forum, marketplace, Nymphaeum and colonnaded streets. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Amman to begin your city tour. At The Citadel, see the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace, Byzantine church, mosque and the Amman Archeological Museum. Statues dating back to 6,000 B.C and the Dead Sea Bronze Scroll are exhibited here.Close by is a Roman Theatre which holds the Museum of Popular Traditions and The Folklore Museum. Drive through the old Downtown area of Amman as we return you to your hotel.
